Outdoors around Avesta

Avesta is in green and fertile surroundings, full of birds and wildlife. There are numerous species of owl as well as capercaillie, grouse and osprey. The Dalälven river meanders through the municipality, offering great recreational opportunities. Nature reserves and a national park provide unspoiled nature, hiking trails and fantastic fishing. Whether you are looking for jogging trails, a golf course, country walks, skiing slopes, electrically lit cross-country skiing trails or canoeing opportunities, there is something for everyone. Horseback riding is a popular pastime in Avesta, and both private and public riding halls are available.

The riverside path along Dalälven passes the Dead Falls, a magnificent memorial to the earlier course of the river with some major waterfalls. There are municipal bathing areas at several lakes, and plenty of other good opportunities to swim. The forests are waiting for you to come and pick mushrooms and berries.
