Recreation in Avesta

There is plenty to do in Avesta! The new water sports centre Metropoolen Avesta was opened in the autumn of 2007. At the same time Sweden’s best concrete skateboard park (Palatset) was inaugurated.

Clubs cover a wide range of sporting interests, with good training opportunities for soccer, ice hockey, handball and motor sport. There are a number of horse-riding centres, and good sport fishing in Färnebofjärden National Park. You can also have a round of golf on the course adjacent to the river.

The cinema in Avesta shows Swedish and international films, and the Film Studio guarantees a wide selection for enthusiasts. There is a cinema/theatre in Horndal, home of the amateur theatrical group. The theatrical society arranges performances at Avesta Theatre. There is a vibrant music scene, and the popular club Garaget arranges live music in various genres. The latest addition to the range of youth clubs is Y-punkten, a multi-activity centre in the middle of Avesta, started on a Youth Council initiative.

At the Town Library you can borrow books, music and films, obtain computer access or read the newspapers. The Tourist Office, situated in the library, sells event tickets and will help you to discover interesting and exciting activities in the area.

We are proud to present Verket – the old iron works is now an interactive experience, where you can use a magic torch to follow the course of industrial history in Copper Valley. Verket also offers a range of events all year round. The recurring Avesta Art Biennial is famous, as is the Santa Claus Festival in December. Parts of Verket can be rented for parties in special surroundings.
